Welcome
The Falls Augrabies . . . a piece of heaven in the Northern Cape of South Africa.

On the beautiful farm Fraaigelegen lies one of the beauties of the Northern Cape, The Falls Guest House, surrounded by an atmosphere of hospitality and world class luxury. This hospitality has been enjoyed for years by guests in this area. As early as the 1020’s guests have been experiencing great hospitality from Piet and Matty Nel.

They are the grandparents of Piet du Plessis who together with his wife Adele are the proud owners of this beautiful guesthouse. Piet’s grandfather Piet Nel was the first owner of the premises where the Augrabies Falls are today. He was the one who sold this to the National Parks of South Africa. In the early 1020’s Matty had a café where she served the tourists and guests that were on the route to the Augrabies Waterfalls. In those days the supplies for the little shop was carried with a horse named Appel (apple) from Kakamas’s station 30km away.

The house named “Hokaai” where Piet and Matty lived still exists today. This was the building that Adele used to start her guesthouse in 2001 before she build the actual guest house November 2005. This is where it all started and today this family’s generosity, kindness and hospitality is carried on by The Falls guesthouse and thir hostess Adele du Plessis.

RICHTERVELD

The Richtersveld National Park, the biggest nature park in the Southern Hemisphere lays rapped up in the arms of sun scorched lava ravines. This is an area where the language of the 17th era is still alive. In this mountain dessert, the only in South Africa, the most beautiful ‘gazania’s and biggest ‘Halfmens ‘tree can bee seen. This can be enjoyed from the comfort of you’re own 4x4 or while rowing down the river.

The well known Halfmens, only found in the Richtersveld, have crowded leaves at the apex of the stem which are usually bend towards the north.

What makes this park so unique is the bareness, beautiful rock hills and mountains which reminds one of a moon landscape.

Augrabies Falls is a wonderful getaway for the nature lover. Apart from the waterfall, which is easily accessible via new walkways, the park boasts scenic views of sweeping granite planes, imposing granite domes, and many fascinating species of plant and animal life. Activities in the park include 50 kilometers of game routes and footpaths. The park boasts a five-kilometres Dassie hiking trail, which will take you to places such as Arrow Point, Twin Falls and Moon Rock. The fall on its own is a beautiful destination spot. Scenic night drives are organized throughout the year, and three swimming pools help to keep visitors cool in the sweltering heat.

If you are the adventurous type, you could include the Gariep 3-in-1 adventure trail to you’re holiday plans. On this trail you will travel +- 20 kilometers around the park; four kilometers rowing down the Orange River, four kilometers of hiking through a dry riverbed and 12 kilometers of cycling back to the camp.
